Well I woke up on Barney's couch with cramp at 6 o'clock in the morning, it fucking hurt, but I got back to sleep... Until I was awoken by the warmth of Barney's breath. It fucking stank. I then got up and went about my usual morning things, then we got in the nice Mercedes owned by Barney's uncle, Dan, who was joining us on our excursion. Then we collected Fin from his mansion and set off. |

The Cooper Temple Clause and Black Rebel Motorcycle club, one band that seems to be in a permanent cloud cuckoo land, and another one that's obscure, sombre and well, black. Will this be a complete cock up of a gig? Two different bands, and two different fan bases. Or, an immense eclectic explosion of wondrous talent, and the uniting of two different interests? Well, we'll get to that. |

After navigating my way to the Cambridge Portland Arms via a scabby map and an expensive phone call to the staff at the Portland Arms, I'm glad to say that it was, eventually, worth it. The Portland Arms is unlike any venue/gig hole I've ever been to, and I must say that seeing a band of this quality in such a 'cosy' environment would definitely be a moment I wouldn't be able to forget easily. |

Epic music has taken a turn for the better recently. Bands like Isis, Jesu and Sun0))) have suddenly become more popular, innovative and original that ever. You only have to catch a few local scenes to find that it’s catching on too. More young, up-and coming bands are being inspired by what can only be described as “Big Sounds”, but where the aforementioned are all veterans in their field, Pelican are still young and experiencing a learning curve. They’ve been there for a while, but have never had the acceptance of, for instance, Isis, and, in all honestly, too right. Previous Pelican releases have pretty much all contained very slow, heavy riffs that make them sound like a better than average stoner/sludge metal band. With this album, Pelican hope to change all that. |

Revival

A Silver Mt. Zion was
born out of the wishes of certain members of Godspeed You Black Emperor!
(Efrim, Thierry and Sophie) to develop and maintain quieter and more fragile
suites, composing in an almost classical manner. With sparse instrumentation
(described in the liner notes as piano, guitar, organ, radio, contrebasse,
electric bass, violin and voice) it is obvious from the outset that a far more
introverted, delicate, and ethereal work is at hand. |

Revival

The 1980's, no matter what those stupid Sunday night Channel Four countdown programmes may have told you, were not just about synth-pop, silly haircuts and Bullseye. In fact, at the beginning of the decade, on the east coast of America, a scene was happening that was to provide the musical blueprint of much to follow. While other bands may garner more
widespread historical significance, it was a group of angry young men by the name of Minor Threat that helped to breathe much needed new life into punk music, which was by then, an ailing genre. |
