"This band are no longer mine" was the thought that finally ran through my head at about the 5th bland song I was subjected to in a row - even worse was that it was 'Superconnected' which should have been a band career highlight like it is on record. The songs that preceded it I could kinda let off, they were material from the Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning records oh whom I didn't have a massive opinion of anyway, but when 'Superconnected' came along and completely failed at having any kind of sound dynamics or the dizzying euphoric chorus it deserved, well, I kinda just gave up trying right there. I believe my exact words, out loud, for everyone to hear during this moment of realisation was "man, this is REALLY dull". |

Luton's Don't Move! Play Dead! have only been about for a year. In that time they have released material on a Belgium label, supported Gay For Johnny Depp, Action Beat and The One Ensemble and bewildered audiences on Luton's pedestrian live band circuit. |

Sometimes music has a way of intruding your life. Some bands or albums appear out of the blue, despite your attempts to seek music that was the total opposite of what they are and yet they still pull you to the ground with their brilliance.

Change is a significant feature of John Dwyer's career: dividing his time between industrial dance noise, insanely distorted garage rock and arythmic freakouts among other things. Rarely though is there much change within the acts themselves. Aggressive, fast pace shtompfing characterised Coachwhips; feigned German accents and incessant bass were the foundations of Zeigenbock Kopf; dirty and spazzy noise was the export of Pink & Brown; and, once upon a time, uber-slow, quiet scaryfolk was the domain of The Ohsees, OCS, Thee Oh Sees (whatever). It's only on this release that a completely new character has developed for them. Grinding out noisy rock 'n' roll has now become their primary concern.

To the uninitiated, Health are an amazing noise band from Los Angeles. Perhaps best described by myself in past reviews as "sounding like a bunch of superheroes, with tribal beats blasted at them whilst they scream and chant with genderless chants". Their debut album last year left many astounded, their live shows impressed even more and now they are rightfully "hot stuff". |

Ah, the Faversham. Probably my least favourite venue in Leeds. Bad sound? Check. Expensive beverages? Check. A crowd that always consists of people that are more concerned about how they look than which bands are playing? Check. But how could I resist a line-up like today as well as free entry?

ATP! Yes, easily Britain's best musical festival on the alternative map. You're always certain on seeing some unique and interesting acts at ATP as well as being able to enjoy a great atmosphere, a shower, a bed and, if you opt for self-catering, a chance to show off your basic pasta-cooking skills (which were much appreciated, by the way...!)
