Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever ago
Albums
In late 2006 at the end of his old band, DeYarmond Edison, Justin Vernon decided to move to a remote cabin in the woods and lived alone for 3 months occupying himself with physical chores. Whilst out there through the result of isolation and contemplation he started writing and recording music, the result of which can be seen on this album. And thank fuck he did. Ever since this album arrived in my post-box it hasn’t left my CD player.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone - London, Bush Hall - 05.03.08
Gigs
Tonight’s events at the picturesque surroundings of London’s Bush Hall have been sold out for a fair while now. Owen Ashworth’s roadshow has come to town and his fans have come out in their droves to come and see the show. Since the release of his last album, 2006’s fantastically heartfelt ‘Etiquette’, he has picked up fans left right and centre with his painfully emotional and honest lyrics and casiobeats. Tonight’s show, which isn’t to promote anything in particular despite the fact that Owen is constantly releasing singles, sees Ashworth bring 'Etiquette's female singer Jenny Herbinson over to the UK for the first time.

Foals - Antidotes
Albums
Apologies in advance for the overuse of hyphens... So, just in case you didn't know, DIRTY was offline for about a year. It was in this year that Foals went through some changes: Andrew from Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies (now known simply as 'Youthmovies') left the band, guitarist/backing vocalist and ex-Edmund Fitzgerald man, Yannis, took over on vocal duties, a guy called Edwin joined full-time to play synth and they got signed to Warner subsidiary, Transgressive Records in the UK and Sub Pop in the US.

Fuck Buttons - Street Horrrsing
Albums
Before I start my review, I have to point out that unlike every other article about Fuck Buttons in the last year or so, this is not a serious go-between of noise and pop music. When we achieve this feat, the world will end with Merzbow and Madonna sitting atop an atom bomb, flinging their Stetson's around their heads. In the meantime...

Les Savy Fav - Inches
Albums
There's been an undeniable amount of catching-up in the press with this band over the last year. During a 4 year hiatus between this record's original release and last year's effort 'Let's Stay Friends' more and more die hard fans made their voices heard about how they believed Les Savy Fav are one of the greatest in the game. As a result, more and more people took notice, including those of the more mainstream press who decided to jump on the bandwagon quick and claim that "oh yeah, I've always loved the 'Fav, I think I saw them live back in '99 and I'm pretty sure it was amazing', which meant the imminent release of 'Let's Stay Friends' had the perfect platform to reach a larger and, whisper it, more mainstream audience - resulting in a pretty succesful year for LSF.

Maximum Black Festival - London, Forum - 29.02.08
Gigs
It’s quite rare that a line up of bands this good tour together, so it’s quite fitting that it happens on a day that only comes around once every 4 years. All of this is thanks to curator and headliner Owen Pallett aka. Final Fantasy, and oddly Vienna Public Utilities Company - who footed the tab for the three city tour to escape from legal action after they asked another band to record an almost identical song to Pallet’s ‘This Is A Dream of Win and Regine’ after Pallet denied them from using his song.
