Million Dead - A Song To Ruin |
This album needs to be put on loud, and i mean very loud! First song goes
straight to Frank Turner's screaming vocals, and it's fantastic. The lyrics reek of
intelligence and they have not only been written passionately but they have been
sung passionately too. 'Breaking The Back' is probably the only song here that is
'single material'. Stand out track has to be 'Charlie And The Propaganda Myth
Machine' criticising and mocking such childhood heroes as Willy Wonka and the
BFG. It's a different kind of insight into how the world works and leaves a big
impression.
'A Song To Ruin' is a bit of a disappointment, it's a good song no doubt but it just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the album. It hits track 7 and it's becoming a bit repetitive or you are simply getting bored of it. The whole way through I'm waiting for the album to 'burst' so to speak, the sound quality isn't great to say the least. It's a shame because it really would've benefited their sound.
However, that fact that this album will still leave a big impact on you is enough reason for it to rotate in your stereo system for a while. It's lyrically brilliant, there's energetic drumming, guitarist Cameron has a great unique style to him and the bass stands through strongly.
