cLOUDDEAD - Ten
In the making of this album, there was somewhat of a silent war. cLOUDDEAD have been together for a good four years now. Their first self-titled album was released in 2001, and everything seemed fine. But in the production of this album, emotions ran wild, confrontations happened, and this record was nearly never released. What the world could have missed out on is quite amazing. There is a very probable chance that this will be their last release, and so this could become an even more cult version of what was ‘Refused-The Shape of Punk to Come’.

‘Ten’ is ten tracks of hip-hop/experimental/chill-out music that is just stunning. Right from the start you are aware of the wonderfully dark grooves you can find in the album, with the beautiful 'Pop Song' a breathtaking harmony with angelic singing and samples alike. The album then progresses, track by track, into their more dark/moody but thrilling and intelligent lyrical content and stronger drumstramentals particularly with the albums halfway point and rather upbeat 'Rifle Eyes' which is one of the top tracks on the record. Still keeping to the very dark theme to the whole album, but using more upbeat samples with a catchy chorus using a muted guitar and bass backing it. But this track also shows why’s, odd nosdam’s and doseone’s, MC talent, rapidly changing speeds and even overlaying each other. The next track 'Dead Dogs Two' brings the mood back down into the more chillout sort of area, which it’s calm yet catchy chorus and is single material of the album.

The album is a big juxtaposition; it is wonderfully dark and moody, but at the same time it’s harmonious and angelic, it is a collection of music to watch the world go by, but still with conscious thought of the strong ideas against capitalism and the social scene as it stands. It is sweet and short at just over 40 minutes, however there is a chance that if it was longer, it may get a bit sickening. It is a sad swan song, should this record end up being the demise of the group, but whatever the future holds for them, they can be proud of the record, as it is just brilliant. It may not appeal to everyone, and it is an acquired taste, but it is still a wonderful record that a lot will be a cult classic in the next few years. And you get the 'Dead Dogs Two' Ep. With it for free! Can’t be bad…
