Cave In - Cassingle
WOW! Cave In have got themselves a new haircut! Wait, wait... that metaphor doesn't work nowadays does it? Fucking haircut emo bands. Fucking haircut NME bands.

Sorry. Anyway, yes, they've changed and "whoa!". The cassingle is only two songs long and they're both 3/4 minutes long, probably less. Yep, less. 2/3 minutes long. Still, I find this 5 minute taster of their future FAR more pleasing than most of the songs off 'Perfect Pitch Black'.

Ben Koller from Converge (who recently replaced injured Cave In drummer, JR Connors) has really ignited something within the band, this is a much faster, adrenaline fuelled band to what I've seen...well, heard before.

Opener, 'Dead Already' definitely hints at the Converge inspiration - the first few seconds, in fact, do this. There's a bit of feedback that reminded me instantly of the feedback sounds off Converge's last album ,'You Fail Me', that sounds like a train brakes being applied. Bassist, Caleb Schofield, takes over vocal duties and the fast tempo instantly placed some hope back into my soul for this band that was lost after hearing PPB.

Follower, 'Shapeshifter', has an amazing intro. Starting off with a dirty bass riff that goes into something that reminds me of Lightning Bolt chasing stars (this is probably because loads of snare bangs accompanying the Jupiter-esque guitars). Only bad thing about this is Brodsky's voice. Although I love it and although it sounds great when it gets scratchy and he does his 'whaoooa' bits it feels like he slows down the song and puts a bit of a dampener on the energy that is literally seeping through your speakers.

Other than that minor fault, this restores my faith nicely and I really am genuinely excited about their future songs.

Perfect Pitch What?
