We Are Scientists - With Love & Squalor
It would have been almost too easy for me to dismiss these boys as another NME hype band, straight outta NYC with their tank tops and dodgy dress sense, but i chose to give them a chance basing this decision on the fact that one of their members has a very questionable 'tache!

While everybody else is bumming the Arctic (fucking) Monkeys, the smart kids are buying this little gem and dancing around their bedrooms to angular guitar sounds and sweeeet harmonies.

It's kinda difficult to compare We Are Scientists to anybody else. All the obvious comparisons have already been thrown out there...Franz, Bloc Party...somebody even mentioned Hot Hot Heat! (WTF?) Truth is.....they don't sound like anybody else and I think thats why I feel so drawn to them plus I'm a sucker for spikey guitars so I was instantly hooked within 20 seconds of pressing 'PLAY' on this cd. 'Nobody Move, Nobody Gets Hurt' has spikey-ness and singalongs. Do you really need anything else?? Maybe you do?.....carry on listening then! 'The Scene Is Dead', with drums that pound and lots of squelch. 'Can't Lose' has sloppy reggae beats and makes you nod your head subconciously. 'Textbook' is the boy version of 'Maps' but the stand-out song by a mile has to be 'The Great Escape'. I've played this song at least four or five times a day since I first got this cd and i'm not even slightly tired of hearing it because it makes me happy! It makes me jump about and sing and dance like nobody is watching me. It is perfect indie-pop-punk- rock-whatever! You could do worse things than purchasing this album but you probably couldn't do a better thing.

** As a foot-note, you all should be checking out their own personal reviews of random shit at wearescientists.com . The Cadbury Creme Egg review is legendary!!
