Fujiya & Miyagi - Transparent Things
Okay. I'm a sucker for artwork and things which look 'nice'. This album caught my attention this summer whilst in Dublin. I was in some trendy, expensive shop (with no money) and on one floor, they had a music section. This CD was presented as 'album of the month' and it just looked awesome. It's completely white with a hole in the front and all album details are on the side. Very sexy.

Months later I picked up the album again at Rough Trade. As the artwork suggests, this album is very minimalist - nothing big, grandiose or epic here but instead, electric, bassy synth and drum sounds, topped with Damo Suzuki-esque vocals fill the album.

Like a lot of 'electric'-based music, I find that this album waivers in its ability to hold my attention. True, there are some killer choruses here but there's also a hell of a lot of dry verses that just switch me off.. and when you realise they weren't Japanese ("we were only pretending to be Japanese") and are instead a trio from Brighton then a bit of the magic fades bleach white, like the album cover.
