Lincolnshire 5-piece Throats' timing appears to be a good one. In a post-November Coming Fire Britain, there appears to be a whole bunch of kids emerging from all sorts of pockets over the country who have a serious love for Converge's indie approach to Hardcore, both in trademark DIY self-promotion and in song writing. Clearly, Converge's huge influence is finally starting to shine through in Britain, as there is now a whole crop of exciting Hardcore bands, indifferent to typage or ideologies.
Throats it would seem are the pick of the bunch, with an exciting, devastating, destructive live show and this demo only continues this feeling. The sound is rough around the edges, but for the most part, this is fast, intriguing and endearing music; just a quick look at the included lyric sheet gives a whole other level of mystery like the opening lines of 'Sometimes' 'I can't keep my hangs wrapped around my throat tight enough/to stop all my memories spilling out of my neck'.
The highlight is without a doubt the demo's centre-piece Deathnaps/Comatosed, which starts off with a slow burning, almost early Deftones quality to it, before suddenly shifting to a track full of rock 'n' roll swagger, since mastered by the likes of Every Time I Die. Its an encouraging demo to listen to, and it appears to only get better for this band, who now have a brand new recording - exceeding themselves both in song writing and production - which has just been released on their myspace.
