PRE - Epic Fits
Fuck, yes! Dalston's own punk noise-rock heroes finally make the leap to album format via the equally heroic Skin Graft Records. The fact that PRE are the first UK band ever to be signed to the US noise label says a lot, England's been screaming for a band like this to rip itself a new asshole and finally we have 15 tracks of pure mind-numbingly awesome assaults of sound.

From the off, the band launch into aggressive riffs and cleverly timed noise-eruptions to try and throw you off with 'Drool'. The brutal bass guitar team throw down severe riffs at a shockingly awesome pace and before you realise it, you're 5 songs in already.

However abrasive you might find this album, you can't deny that this is a band thinking at 210mph, easily plucking riffs out frantically and Akiko's nonsensical screams are exactly where you want them - crazily and almost carelessly littered over the meaty, yet somehow skeletal, riffs. It's hard to keep up, but when you persevere it's impossible to sit still.

They barely slow down for a breather on the album. How they keep up with this stuff live is astonishing! The fact that the best moments in the album for me ('Dude Fuk', 'Popping Showers' & 'And Prolapse') happen about 9 tracks deep indicates how solid this album is. Fair enough, it's not exactly diverse, but if you're going to level that criticism at a band like this then you're not ready for them. This is a non-stop, unrelenting barrage of everything great about punk music: it's clever, stuffed full of attitude, sex, aggression and it's still got this sense of humour about it that makes it impossible to not be won over by. You don't want it to slow down, you don't want it to stop, you just want to get more and more and experience some sort of delirious sugar-high of noise.

Oh and if I was a really great reviewer, I would've worked some sort of 'pie' metaphor ('PRE' is apparently Japanese for 'pie'). For now, please accept this one: 'Like pie, PRE are A YUMMY BAND'.
