Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Reviewing this band is pretty repetitive already. The Album's only been out a week, and already I'm at a point where if I read "blogosphere's buzz band", "afrobeat-influenced" or "Ivy League educated" again in a review of this record I may scream. The simple fact is, these things are all a given. I don't care where they were educated, the major influences to their sound are pretty much blatant, and yes, indie kids will love this, I can see them becoming the 'cool choice' over here as well as in their native America.

The point is, are the songs good enough to buy into? Short answer, is yes.

All the hype aside, this is simply put, a really enjoyable 35 minute journey through an eccentric take on indie-pop, which is given it's uniqueness due to the addition of keys and organs, and an off-kilter drum beat leading the charge. This is still more refreshing than anything the 'NME crowd' dare come up with, as well as just being good, charming songs.

'Mansard Roof', the first single, is led by frenetic snare pattern, apreggied keyboard and catchy lyrics. That's pretty much all you need to know. Now these songs have been given the production job they deserve, including a really gorgeous guitar sound, this record is simply put, really easy to digest and enjoy. 'Oxford Comma' has the qualities of a modest ballad, let by it's clicky drum beat and rising climax, whereas 'A-Punk' is fast-paced post-punk song with an insanely danceable beat led by excellent instrumentation by all involved.

And the album continues on like that, varying from the building, the furious and the pure catchy. A big highlight of which being 'I Stand Corrected' which is perhaps the band at their most honest and emotional. Vampire Weekend's debut is fun, charming and catchy all at once (and occasionally passionate). Ignore all the hype. It's not important. All that needs to be known is that these are eleven very enjoyable little stories that you'll come back to again and again.
