April: 5 things...
So yeah, I normally write this editorials about one day later than I should do and then I just waffle on about how the website's doing. It's quite boring, so I thought I'd change things and do a "5 things..." ...thing.

I'm not sure what theme these 5 things will be put under, but for the time being, let's just say it all has to have happened within the last few days (when I should've been writing a decent editorial).

1. I bought a badge machine!

Yeah, it was expensive but it'll pay for itself soon. The plan is to do short runs for a nice price so bands, artists, designers, etc can get a nice limited set of badges to give away to friends, fans, admirers, and whoever else picks one up.

Why did I do this? Well it's a combination of browsing the 'Badge/Button/Pin' book by Gavin Lucas and seeing friends and random people wearing DIRTY badges in pictures on sites like Facebook. Badges really get around and I really like designing them so I'm going to play around with it all some more.

2. Pitchfork.tv

Wow. What a genius idea for a website! The guys at Pitchfork have clocked on to the fact that people like watching streaming movies/tv series on the internet (and on that note: thank you surfthechannel.com for filling the tv-links.co.uk void in my life!) and have made a music specialised one. Oh and it's legal, of course!

I tested it out by watching the Pixies reunion documentary 'loudQUIETloud' whilst my sister's cat was on heat, rubbing itself up and down my foot... Bit distracting, and accidentally lead to me closing the window. I think that's the only problem with the streaming content, you can't really fast forward and I don't fancy sitting through something I immediately just watched... Still! It's a great idea and I think it'll be a great site - easily beats watching pixelated stuff on YouTube.

3. Reading/Leeds Festival ticket-buying "hoo-haa"!

As always, a big fuss goes on about getting tickets, websites crashing because of demand, blah, blah. Personally, it's not my cup of tea - I've never been, nor do I intend on going. Why? Well somehow the line-up always looks really dated. As if the bands playing the festival this year were somehow picked from a fictitious festival that happened four years ago.

I mean; Tenacious D, Slipknot, Feeder, Metallica, Dropkick Murphys, etc aren't really bands that I'd feel would represent with 2008... Nor are they bands that I would feel comfortable spending £155 on seeing. Plus, the place is HUGE and there's the fact that ATP is the same price/Truck is cheaper and both exceed it in every single way.

Also, did anyone else notice that it's not sponsored by Carling this year?

Oh and yeah, there's plans for DIRTY to do its own 'Anti-Reading' festival next year. It'll probably be more of an all-dayer than a festival, but it promises to be pretty unique - just you wait!!!

4. Deerhunter finish new album

Ahh, if only all "hiatuses" were like this! Yep, apparently the band's new album 'Microcastle' is all wrapped up and they're playing the album in full at a gig in New York this week. From hearing some of the new songs from the band's Daytrotter session I don't think we'll be disappointed.

More info on the Deerhunter blog...

5. Links to Music Blogs

Speaking of blogs. We've just been working on adding links to music blogs on our links page. As you can see, there's a few there already but there'll be waaaay more. There's so many out there. I'm not sure if I should draw the line at "music blogs" or whether I should add blogs by record labels or blogs by screenprinting companies who are also bands (ahem, Seripop!)? Most of them have great names. My favourite being "Have The Rolling Stones Killed"...

Feel free to suggest more music blogs in our Forum.

I think that'll do for my editorial... bye!
