So, as always, at the dawn of this month I was panicking over an editorial. I considered writing something about Glastonbury, but that's pointless, irrelevant and not what I'm interested in reading about (so why would I want to write about it?) then I wanted to talk about this awesome website I found the other day, but then I didn't see what use that would be... So I was stumped.
Then, for some reason, I Googled "dirtyzine"...
The results were undramatic and slightly annoying. Two of our old reviewers, who don't review for us anymore after they unveiled themselves to be ...well, cocks, seem to have really banded around the word of DIRTY in the most annoying way ever. Arrogantly bringing it up in forum arguments, pronouncing the site "dead" when I couldn't afford web hosting last year and most disgustingly: claiming to have designed the site - what the fuck?!
So, I feel the need to stress a few things! DIRTY is something I will probably carry on doing until my ears stop. I designed it myself and it was coded by the brilliant mammal that IS... Darren Burrows. We don't feel like we're better than other music sites, nor do we feel that we're in some competition with them. What we do here is totally of our own entertainment. That's why we're lazy sometimes, that's why we're not throwing the URL around aimlessly at anyone who belongs to a certain social networking site...
Saying this, however, since our humble beginnings in 2005 (when this place was called 'feed-back' & I had designed the site in MSPaint, published it with Geocities and every review was a .jpeg because I wanted to use a font that wasn't 'web-usable') I think we've done well for ourselves. I am happy with what this little site has become, what we mean and what we're aiming towards doing. Every step we've taken has been a step forward and I still don't think we've hit our peak... and that's pretty exciting.
