1. What’s the most over-the-top thing anyone’s said about your band?
That’s really hard to remember, I don’t really remember anyone saying anything over the top. Thankfully. People have said “don’t buy this record” but that’s not that over the top... I don’t know. I’m surprised, most bands at some point get told that they’re ‘the best thing to happen to music since Nirvana’. We’ve never had that though! I don’t really know, we get all that stuff cut out and sent to us. I can’t say I don’t care because it’s not that it doesn’t affect us but you just get to the point where so much gets written about you that you ran out of steam to really keep looking.

2. Favourite films?
Fire Walk With Me, Apocalypse Now, Harvey. I really like Fight Club actually, I’ve not watched it for ages.

3. Top 5 albums?
The Slits - ‘Cut’, Q And Not U - ‘No Kill No Beep Beep’, Hot Snakes - ‘Automatic Midnight’, ‘In Utero’ (I don’t even need to say the band’s name) and Sex Pistols - ‘Nevermind The Bollocks’.

4. Most scary thing to happen at a gig?
Probably when we played Ladyfest in Brighton about two years ago and it was a club night where they didn’t have a licence for bands or anything, we were way louder than any of the DJs and everyone went apeshit. It was the last night of Ladyfest and the place was full of, well, lesbians and everyone went apeshit and they all took their tops off and because the bar didn’t have a licence for nudity or whatever so they had to be all like, “put your tops on, put your tops on!”. We were playing a cover of the Bangles at the time. Then we looked round at the bouncers, who were all female, and they’re getting off with each other and then some girl just shoots a camera, then there’s a massive brawl. The police got called, they shut everything down and we were there just like, “we just wanted to play The Bangles...!”

5. If you weren’t in a band, what would you be doing?
I’d be doing something to do with hanging around bands. Or a chef. I don’t know the first thing about it but I reckon I’d quite enjoy it.

6. If you had to come up with your own question, what would it be? (This is basically a chance for you to say whatever you want as an answer)?
... I’m just trying to think of a band and what I’d really like to ask them... Okay. I’d ask a band like Q And Not U: when you were writing a song, and you were playing all the bits together, was there one person who could veto it? Or is it really democratic and they all just sort of voted. There’s a lot of bands where there’s five people and if one person gets in a strop about a song then it won’t happen. I mean, that’s the thing you couldn’t really ask that about our band because we’re just two people so yeah it’d be interesting.

Cheers to Steven for his time and Southern Comfort...!
