Radar: 27th October - 2nd November 2008
GET UP! GET DOWN! SIT UP! SIT DOWN! Yes, it's this week's Radarrrrrr, relaying you the ripest fruits from the intricate and many webs of "the interwebs".
  • All Tomorrow's Parties - 'The Fans Strike Back/Curated by The Breeders' [festival] - atpfestival.com
  • 2009's May ATP Festival curators have been announced. It's us and The Breeders. By "us", I mean, anyone who's going to go this particular ATP. It was a tried and tested formula that worked at 'ATP Versus The Fans' in 2007 and we can't wait for the tension-filled vote results to appear on the ATP site. A few acts have already been announced for these festivals (Sleep, Spiritualised, Devo, Throwing Muses, Bon Iver, Holy Fuck and more) so check out the site!

  • Black Lips - 'Various' [video] - pitchfork.tv
  • Check out self-proclaimed "flower punks" Black Lips playing pre-'Good Bad Not Evil' material live on Pitchfork.tv

  • Chaos vs Cosmos - 'No more shows this year' [image/gigs] - chaosvscosmos.blogspot.com
  • Chaos vs Cosmos are/is an awesome promoter personally known as Steve Chaos in our phonebook. We were meant to interview him ages ago but will soon anyway because Chaos vs Cosmos have been putting on some great shows and with them some eye bleeding visuals in the form of posters to promote the nights. You can check out some of Steve's poster designs at gigposters.com

  • Gentle Friendly - 'Ride Symbols' [stream] -myspace.com/gentlefriendly
  • First mentioned to us by John from Health, Gentle Friendly are a two-piece from London landing (fantastically) somewhere between Animal Collective and This Heat. They've got an EP coming out soon, via No Pain in Pop and there's a launch night for that at the Old Blue Last in London on 21st November. DJs include DIRTY chums, Stop Scratching & Chaos vs Cosmos (which is sure to be loud!)

  • Men of Unitus - 'Three Glands Full' [stream] - myspace.com/menofunitus
  • Men of Unitus have just self-released their debut album on their own 'No Lite' records. It's very full-on and it WILL fuck you up. If you don't like the gland pun in the song we've highlighted here then it's probably best you avoid looking at the album (titled 'Gland of Hope and Glory') tracklist. Expect a review soon.

  • Munch Munch - River (Live at Maida Vale)' [stream] - myspace.com/munchmunchband
  • Categorised on their MySpace as "Pop/Children/Pop", this Bristol four-piece come highly recommended. They recorded one of the best tracks on the 'Worried Noodles' David Shrigley compilation for Tomlab last year (which also featured Grizzly Bear, Deerhoof, Franz Ferdinand, TV On The Radio, Dirty Projectors, Liars, Mt. Eerie, Hot Chip and many others) which would obviously mean they're very good, if they can keep up with those mentioned. And they are. Check out the live recording they did at Maida Vale and all you arty types might want to contact them if you feel inspired as the band are looking for some good t-shirt designs!

  • These Are Powers - '' [mp3] - thesearepowers.com
  • These Are Powers contain Pat who was the bassist for Liars' first album, which contain some amazing basslines, truth be told. These Are Powers are also re-releasing their first two records so check out the two mp3s on the These Are Powers site. One isn't linked to properly (we think) and the other is this one - http://www.thesearepowers.com/src/little_sisters_of_beijing.mp3. Fortunately it's great; obscure, dark and groovy. Perfect when we blasted it on Halloween.

  • Youthmovies - 'Magic Diamond' [stream] - myspace.com/youthmovies
  • 'Magic Diamond' is a new song from the band's upcoming, 'Polyp' EP out soon via Blast First (petite). We'll review it when/if we get a promo! The band also embark on a tour to support the EP so check their MySpace for dates. There's also word about a new album coming out within in a year. Good stuff, then.

Heard/seen/read/whatever anything great this week that should go in next week's 'Radar'?
Well DO share it with us on the forum!
