Japanther - Tut Tut Now Shake Ya Butt
Coming after last year's name-making 'Skuffed Up My Huffy', 'Tut Tut Now Shake Ya Butt' slipped by almost unnoticed this year. When it came to the date it was due, nothing much happened, but the anticlimactic release by no means reflected the contents of this awesome little nugget.

The more consistently pop-song orientated direction 'Skuffed Up My Huffy' took them down saw the skits and interludes that once got a track all to themselves being integrated into the songs as intros or outros. Here, there's still a lot of sample use, again as intros and outros, but on this release they've made a lot of room for the collaboration with poet Penny Rimbaud of Crass fame, which involves bits and pieces all over the album but culminates in two 10 minutes tracks. To be honest, they're completely opposite to the flow of the rest of the album, but it's really hard to care when the context is so fantastic. Maybe if Japanther songs were getting worse it'd feel like they were just padding out a weak album, but they just aren't.

A bit of the diversity in songs themselves that was missing from 'Huffy' sees a return with Radical Businessan, a phenomenal Spank Rock collab that no doubt created the best chorus of 2008, but for the most part the tracks on 'Tut Tut' keep to the familiar, pop punk sound they've always been pushing.

I think it's really hard to fault Japanther. They get involved with a lot of projects, like doing a show with a synchronised swimming troupe, that I'd only like because of their part in it, but when their part is as good as it always is, it just makes me happy they put out something new.
