Jay Reatard - Singles '06 - '07
Jay Reatard doesn't fuck around. He writes a lot of songs very, very quickly and puts them out more often than your favourite band rehearse. He works in singles, though his upcoming release is going to be an album, and it's a style that definitely suits.

It's weird how generic his sound is. The only category it really fits under is "rock", but it goes without saying that's way too broad to sum anything up. He has an amazing knack for making music: it's always simple; it's pretty poppy; and it's really catchy.

Working in terms of a singles compilation takes the scant chance their was that Jay Reatard would write filler or slip in a few weak tracks and grinds it down to an impossibility.

The album doesn't feel rushed as such, but there's a real impression it's unpolished, and definitely an impression made by how quickly it was all written and recorded. That's far from a bad thing though.
