M83 - Saturdays = Youth
I sometimes wonder about Calvin Harris prancing around in those bug eye sunglasses. No, not in that way...

Does he really have love for us for being born in the 80's? Somehow I doubt it. I think he would have love for us as long as we dance to his music, age-aside. Calvin Harris and a wide of modern day music artists have fetishized the 80's to death. We don't really love the 80's we love just love the irony of dancing to Phil Collins 'She's an Easy Lover' in the hippest nightclub in South London.

None of us would dare admit to owning the tune or let alone listening to it alone in our room on headphones. So the empire of the hipster crowd continues to grow, everything ironic, no real passion left just a little shuffling in the corner in darkest indie club, all in on the joke, but the jokes not even slightly funny.

M83 is a breath of fresh air. He really loves the 80s. No, really. The sentimental soul of the music wrapped in teenage angst and loneliness, emotional syths and space reverberation. It's a true ode to the 80's teen movies and dramatic statements as seen on quite possible single of the year 'Graveyard Girl' It's also an interesting departure from M83's standard post rock electronics and dance beats. As shoegazery material and jubilant synths and ambience take importance over the normal standard style. There are some great vocal pieces which presents a more human approach to M83's music that is sometimes lost in it's electronica. Nice. More please. Preferably next summer. A Summer record, even.
