Help She Can't Swim - Bunty Vs. Beano |
|
Help She Can't Swim are an energetic noise outfit from the south coast of England. This is their debut single and although it's fairly short what it lacks in length is made up with the satisfying feeling you get after listening to it - all is not lost in the world of music. Here is a band that until now I hadn't heard anything about, and now I want to shout their name from the rooftops because this really is a band you should check out.
Lyrically, the song focuses on sexist stereotyping and has the chorus of "girls wear pink and boys wear blue/bounces off of us and sticks to you" it's witty, clever and sang almost in nursery-rhyme style. The rest of the song is great, I really love the way the guitars seem to be spiralling out of control at various points and then coming back into form the next. the intro is probably the best example of this.
The vocals are energetic, angst ridden and bloody marvellous Tom Deeney's tortured, psychotic screams litter the track beautifully and the end of the track is decorated with Kim Gordon-like screams from Lessey Haines - who shouts various minor celebrities names "Vanessa Felts, Mariah Carey, Daine Bowers, Simon Cowell, Ashton Kutcher" it's brilliant and the outro is like a drunken, crazed bull charging round a room searching for that Matador he swear he just saw a minute ago giving him the finger. A very promising start and I can't wait to see what other things this band has to offer my ears.
