Charlottefield - Firewood |
I got my hands on this wee 7” a couple of weeks ago, and after my mate kept hounding me to get it and me hounding myself to get it, I stuck my hand deep into the unknown territories of my pocket and coughed up the money for a copy, I knew it was special before I bought it as my friend had shown me a copy, and to an orgasmic surprise I
saw it to be half black and half YELLOW so I had to get a copy, and lucky I did
because about a week or so later they were all sold out. They are being reprinted but
only in black, so I’m one of the special people with this lovely little wax wonder.
Side A ('Firewood') is lovely; it is you know, it’s so lovely I can’t describe it. The
beginning is a complicated, highly precise work of art, then It kicks in and makes
you point into the air moving your hand in time to the music and think to yourself.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH YEEEEEAH. Truly wonderful.
How they did it, I do not know, but you really have to listen to it yourself to
fully appreciate it.
Side B ('Loudmouth') is a Ramones cover. But for all you people that think bands that
cover other people's songs are crap; this isn’t, seriously, it is so much more better
than the Ramones version. Straight forward punk rock, but they 'Charlottefield-ise'
it. They speed it up, give it some beef and make it sound how The Ramones should
have made it sound. This truly is the pride of my record collection at the moment
and should be yours too!
