The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It |
|
Someone recently told me that I should be happy that we have more guitar based
bands on the radio now, and whilst I agree that hearing the Killers every hour on
Radio 1 is much better having Boyz To Men or some other gormless boy band being
drilled into our brains at every turn, I’m a miserable bastard and thus I’m still going to
complain about it.
It’s a shame though, the Killers aren’t the worst band in the world (we have the
Libertines to thank for that) and there are worse band pillaging New Orders legacy
(the Bravery) but after hearing their album so much at my old job I have trouble
guessing what the fuss is all about.
Each song is basically the same just with a different, ‘catchy’ chorus. 'Smile Like You Mean It' is no exception, polished guitars, simple drumming and a nice bass line, if the Killers were a boyfriend you were taking home to meet your parent for the first time, they’d love him. The upside of all this indie rock and roll overkill is that soon people will get bored of this too. Personally I hoping for a post-rock revolution next, I can’t wait to hear Jo Whiley have the first play of the new Godspeed! You Black Emperor album, it shall happen.
