Foo Fighters - Best Of You

Do you have trouble telling that special someone in your life that you love them? Do you spend hours scouring through you record collection trying to find that one song that says “You are important to me”? Do you need something new and simple, so as to intrigue but not confuse the listener? Then look no further: Dave Grohl and the Other Ones are back (also known as the Foo Fighters, sometimes). It’s been almost four years of waiting but they’re finally back with new material and how we’ve all missed them! “Best of You” is a heart felt slice of American radio rock, prefect for all you 17 year olds and 20 something Radio One listeners who want to advertise your deepest feelings through song.

If, however, like me, you are a fully certified misanthrope and/or your other half has a higher intelligence level than the average German, then you’ll realise that, in fact, “Best of You” is at best a shoddy mash of some of the rubbish elements of ‘The Colour and the Shape’, or at worse just Dave Grohl shouting a lot to cover up the fact that they ran out of ideas half way through making their new album. There may have been four years worth of anticipation for new Foo Fighters stuff, but I’ve been waiting for good Foo Fighters material since 1998 (7 years and counting).

Their problem is that they are stuck between their origins as a pop-rock outfit and Dave Grohl’s dreams of giving it all up and starting an acoustic hardcore punk/metal band, but he’s too soft at heart for that even, as proved by the forth coming album “In Your Honour” which is a two disc set which will be one CD acoustic and one CD acoustic with drums. Possibly. This is unlikely to win the Foos any new fans other than those school kids (too lazy to dig any deeper than the front cover of the next Kerrang) who will have their ‘rock awakening’ during the 9 months or so that the Foos will be plastered all over mainstream music media, starting…now.
